The Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) regularly collects nationally representative data about the American public’s knowledge of, attitudes toward, and use of cancer- and health-related information. HINTS data are used to monitor changes in the rapidly evolving fields of health communication and health information technology and to create more effective health communication strategies across different populations.

The Annenberg National Health Communication Survey (ANHCS) is designed to capture national trends relating health behavior and behavioral intentions to media exposure, health knowledge and beliefs, and policy preferences and beliefs. It is the only survey that is continuously in the field with a nationally representative sample, and it is presently one of few surveys emphasizing health communication and its possible outcomes. Since its inception in January 2005, ANHCS has collected data monthly from a nationally representative sample of adults in the United States. This data has been archived and will be made publicly available each year through this website.
The Annenberg Schools at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Southern California are responsible for the creation of the survey instrument. Knowledge Networks, a web-based research company, is responsible for sample recruitment and survey administration. ANHCS is co-sponsored by the Annenberg Schools for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Southern California, with additional support from the Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands.
